JoAnn Shain
JoAnn Shain, M.P.H. is a seasoned medical editor and writer with extensive experience in medical communications for both professional and consumer audiences. She spent two decades at Matthew Bender and Co., Inc. where she rose from medical writer to Practice Area Editor. She managed the full editorial process for the company’s market-leading publication, the Attorneys’ Textbook of Medicine. At Matthew Bender she also designed innovative electronic systems for obtaining information from the PubMed database, helped develop and market the Authority Personal Injury CD, and managed the electronic medical Practice Area Pages for online subscribers. Shain was also Public Education Director, Kidney Learning System at the National Kidney Foundation, where she created the New Normal series of booklets for people who are facing dialysis.
Shain was the recipient of Matthew Bender’s Editorial Achievement Award in 1998, and is a member of the American Medical Writers Association. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology (cum laude) from George Mason University and a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University School of Public Health.
